How round robin scheduling works
In a single round robin, every team plays every other team exactly once, which means a group of eight teams plays seven rounds. A double round robin repeats the process with a second game against each opponent, often with home and away legs, doubling the season length. When the number of teams is odd, one team sits out each round on a bye, and organizers usually rotate byes evenly so no team is disadvantaged. Standings in a round robin are typically decided by points for wins and draws, with head-to-head results, goal or point differential, or a mini-league used to break ties between teams level on points.
